..::Crimes in Pakistan on the name of liberty

WHAT CRIMES ARE COMMITTED IN THY NAME: Liberty, next to religion, is the motive of good deeds and the pretext of crime. There are few nations whose idea of liberty is the right to do what they please, instead of the right of doing that which is lawful and best. Extremism in the defence of liberty is vice. If this be so moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue.Liberty for us is synonymous to law and good governance. Liberty should be right to do whatever law pursuits.

Man is born free. He should not every where be in chains, be it Palestine,Iraq,Afghanistan and now Pakistan. George Washington has aptly remarked: Freedom is blessing in which all the good and evil of life depends. But to love both power, governance and liberty are not very consistent. If liberty is the soul, political institutions are but the body. Any fool can tell the truth, but it requires a man of some sense to know how to lie well.

Liars are not believed even when they tell the truth. Those who murdered our martyred soldiers may now tell a lie. Let them find the truth. Lie needs a truth for a handle, worst lies are those whose blade is false but handle is true. Lie begets a lie. One lie calls for many. A good Liar should have a good memory. We were informed that there exists weapons of mass destruction. Yet none was found and the liberty of a country was reduced to shambles.

William Shakespeare has well said: He will lie, Sir, with such volubility that you would think truth were a fool. Time and again this nation has been given lies. One striking difference between cat and a lie is that cat has only nine lives. American Statesman Patrick Henry has remarked: I know not what course others may take, but for me give me liberty or give me death.Libertymeans responsibility. No wonder most countries dread it. A country which makes its own liberty secure must guard even his enemy. The concept of liberty does not come from government. It comes from subject of it. History of liberty to quote Woodrow Wilson is “History of Resistance”. Regard for liberty though laudable should be subordinate to reverence for other governments. It will be unjust and unwise to deprive a country of its natural liberty upon supposition that it may abuse it.

Twenty Four martyred soldiers lost their lives drawn from insufficient conclusion based on insufficient premises. According to some meaning of life is that it stops. However we as a nation will kick and struggle and determine to live as long as we can. For as long we live we shall feel at the last day that we have not got half things into life that we ought to have done. Enough is enough. Life may not be an end in itself. Is it worth living where you have had enough of it. When the American soldiers ruined French village, one of them remarked: “We sure liberated the hell out of this place”. However, all power, big or small must realize that liberty is power of doing what is allowed by law.Libertyshould be mistress of mankind. Is life so dear or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of mass murder and killings in the midst of night. Today people ofPakistanstand at a cross-road. Forget it, Almighty Allah: I know not what course other may take but for the people ofPakistangive them self respect or give them death. Thomas Jefferson has remarked: What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots. It is its natural manure. The effect of liberty for some nation is that they may do what they please. No doubt liberty is one of the imagination’s most precious possessions, but excess of liberty contradicts itself. There is no such thing as liberty for one and restraint for another.Libertyin the most literal sense is negation of law. Law is restraint and absence of restraint is anarchy. This is how the spirit if unprovoked massacre is committed in the name of liberty. A wise American has proclaimed: “What then is the spirit of liberty? I cannot define it, I can only tell you my own faith. The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure that it is right, the spirit of liberty is the spirit which seeks to understand the minds of other men and women, the spirit of liberty is the spirit which weights their interest alongside its own without bias, the spirit of liberty remembers that not even a sparrow falls to earth unheeded, the spirit of liberty is the spirit of Him who, near two thousand years ago, taught mankind that lesson it has never learned, but has never quite forgotten, that there may be a kingdom where the least shall be heard and considered side by side with the greatest. Can world afford no liberties with liberty itself. There is no such thing as an achieved liberty, like electricity, there can be no substantial storage. It must be generated and enjoyed or else lights go out. As far as grieving nation is concerned, Alfred Denning an English Jurist has remarked: “The price of freedom is an eternal vigilance.” I often wonder whether we do not rest our hopes too much upon constitutions, upon laws and upon Courts. These are false hopes, believe me, these are false hopes.Libertylies in the hearts of men and women; when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no Court can save it.

Today we as a nation are being asked to adopt moderation. Irving Delliard in his discourse “Spirit of Liberty” has observed: ‘What is spirit of moderation? It is the temper which does not press a partisan advantage to its bitter end, which can understand and will respect the other side, which feels a unity between all citizens -real and not the factitious product of propaganda – which recognizes their common fate and their common aspirations – in a word, which has faith in the sacredness of the individual.

However, a word of caution. It is not a myth that today’sPakistanare a sturdy, self-reliant folk who will fight any officious interference with their borders and indeed with their country. The phrase “Hamain Bohat Afsos Hay” used by Ambassador Cameron Munter are both hypocritical and cowardly and lack sincerity. It is not acceptable to this proud nation.

United Statescalls itself an ally. Leon Trotsky has apted remarked: “an ally has to be watched just like an enemy”. Oscar Wilde has rightly said”: “Of course, American has often been discovered before, but has always been hushed up”. No more will their evil deeds be hushed up. Barring few, one hundred and eighty million people of this country have neither foreign bank accounts, castles and palaces, flats or investments and even dual nationalities. They were born here and will die and be buried here. They will not allow martyrdom to be hushed up.Americahas gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without interval. Lee Marvin once said: “If your home bums down, rescue the dogs. At least they will be faithful to you. Is this Woodrow Wilson “idealist nation” grow upAmerica. You will have to admit your guilt to even stand still. The people ofPakistanin general and the legal fraternity of this country in particular salute their Martyrs and pray to Allah for help, courage and fortitude to fight this evil. Dr. Samuel Johnsons has rightly proclaimed: “I am willing to love all mankind, except an American” Was he right
